Give both salons one natural-hair brief
A hair salon price list helps identify a published service entry, but it cannot describe the exact cut you need beside a topper. Start with your own brief, then ask each salon to quote against it.
Describe the outline you want to keep
Say where your natural hair ends now, where you want it to end after cutting, and which areas remain visible when you wear the piece. 'Tidy the ends while keeping enough length for a low ponytail' is more useful than 'make everything blend'. The second request leaves open whether you mean cutting your own hair, altering the topper, changing colour or adding styling.
Read about how to blend a hair topper with natural hair to separate length, density and tone questions. A cut may address one part of that transition; it is not confirmation that every difference can be corrected by shortening your own hair.
Make the two enquiries genuinely comparable
Send the same recent photographs and the same written request to both salons. Show your natural hair without the topper and, if comfortable, the outline with it worn normally. Explain whether the piece is a visual reference only. Ask about feasibility before assuming the salon will handle a supplied topper.
- State the minimum length to retain at the sides, fringe and nape.
- Identify natural-hair areas to cut and areas to leave untouched.
- Describe your usual parting, tie-back needs and home drying routine.
- Request separate confirmation for any proposed work on the topper.
Check whether the cutting work is actually the same
When comparing women's haircut prices, check the named entry as well as the amount. Vit So's published women's standalone entry names washing, cutting and blow-drying; that does not establish every possible restyle or hairpiece adjustment as an inclusion.
Distinguish a trim from changing the shape
A perimeter tidy and a new layer pattern can create different expectations even when both replies say 'cut'. Ask whether the quotation covers maintaining the current outline or redesigning it. Specify whether face-framing pieces and fringe work are part of that request, rather than assuming a general label answers those questions.
For example, shortening natural-hair layers beneath a longer topper may leave less length available to connect the two outlines. Before approving that change, ask which section would be shortened and why. Preserve your stated minimum length until the plan is clear.
Separate checking the transition from cutting the piece
Looking at the combined outline does not mean trimming the topper is included. If you use a clip-in hair topper, explain how it is normally removed and ask whether the appointment can be assessed with it as a reference. Do not treat that request as an agreed removal, refitting or alteration service.

Match the finish to your normal wearing routine
Two cuts can appear similar immediately after styling yet behave differently with your usual drying method. The quotation should identify the finish, so you know what you are paying for and what you can assess before leaving.
Ask what blow-drying means in this quote
Clarify whether the proposed finish follows your natural texture or involves shaping with a brush or hot tool. If you want curls, a pinned shape or an occasion finish, ask whether that is a separate request. A quoted blow-dry should not silently become a styling upgrade, and an elaborate finish should not be assumed within a basic cut.
Choose a finish close enough to your routine to judge the transition honestly. If you air-dry most mornings, explain that before the cut. Ask how the proposed natural-hair outline is expected to sit without the more polished salon finish.
More heat styling is not automatically better value
The AAD's hair styling guidance notes that excessive heat can damage hair and that reducing blow-drying frequency helps limit damage. This supports discussing a manageable natural-hair routine, not judging a quotation by how many hot-tool steps it contains.
Those recommendations are not a heat specification for your topper. OWNSTRAND's human hair vs synthetic wig care guide helps keep material-specific questions separate. A natural-hair finish does not authorise heat, dye or perm chemicals on any wig or hairpiece.
Keep package enquiries on a separate line
The published hair salon packages describe specified combinations, not unlimited additions. Ask which listed combination applies to your assessed needs instead of treating a package headline as a substitute for an itemised cutting quote.
Compare the standalone appointment first
If your present goal is maintaining natural-hair length, request that standalone quote from both salons. Record an optional package as a second proposal. Do not remove an unwanted service on paper and assume the remaining amount is what the salon will charge; ask for the actual revised quotation.
A package may be relevant if you genuinely want its confirmed services. Ask for its written contents, applicable option and exclusions. Do not infer a discount merely because work is grouped together. The deciding question is whether that combination matches your needs, not whether it has the longest description.
Check whether payment commits you to later visits
A package for one appointment and a prepaid series involve different decisions. The Consumer Council's package advice recommends understanding terms, requesting receipts and checking validity, refund policies and eligible locations for prepaid services. If prepayment is proposed, request those terms before deciding. Do not assume either salon offers a prepaid arrangement simply because it uses the word 'package'.

Put the two replies into one comparison sheet
The table below is a hypothetical decision example, not two actual salon offers. Quote A gives a standalone natural-hair cut with several details confirmed. Quote B is labelled as a package but leaves details open; neither its contents nor its value can be inferred from that label.
Treat missing information as unresolved, not included
Write 'not confirmed' wherever a reply is silent. If Quote B does not identify finishing, do not assume it is free or absent: request clarification. If Quote A explicitly excludes a fringe change you need, ask for its revised scope and total. Only then do the figures describe a comparable appointment.
Confirm what the hair-length assumption measures
Give your current natural-hair length, not just the desired length after cutting or the topper's labelled length. Vit So's menu contains a below-chest length-charge note whose applicability needs confirmation. Ask which selected services it affects and how your present length is assessed. If a quote uses 'from', a range or alternative amounts, obtain the applicable amount or clearly stated assessment conditions before ranking it.
Use a final approval check before cutting starts
A clear written quotation still needs to match the plan discussed in the chair. Reconfirm anything that changes after the stylist sees your hair, particularly sections that help connect the natural hair to the topper.
Approve the boundaries, not just the overall idea
Ask the stylist to show the intended cut line and which layers will change before cutting. If the assessed plan differs from your photographs, discuss the trade-off: keeping tie-back length may matter more than copying a shorter reference exactly. Make your priority explicit rather than hoping it remains obvious.
Any proposal to add treatment, colour or more detailed styling should have its own scope and charge confirmed before proceeding. If you do not want the addition, say so. An assessment is useful information, but it is not your automatic approval of a larger appointment.
- Repeat the minimum natural-hair length and no-cut areas.
- Confirm washing and finishing, including any optional styling charge.
- Ask for the revised total if the scope or length assessment changes.
- Reconfirm that topper alteration and fitting remain outside this quotation unless separately agreed.
- Keep the written quote and ask for a receipt identifying the services received.

Keep the topper budget and the two locations separate
An affordable natural-hair appointment is not an all-in topper budget. OWNSTRAND product and fitting charges are excluded from this salon comparison unless separately confirmed in writing; a linked service menu cannot establish those charges or inclusions.
Use a second enquiry for the hairpiece
For product-specific questions, the hair topper prices guide sets out what to check before requesting a quote. Keep that enquiry distinct even when the cut and topper decisions influence each other. Ask separately about the piece, assessment and any fitting or alteration arrangements you actually require.
Send a short clarification message to each salon
You can write: 'Please confirm the total for maintaining my natural hair only, with the retained length shown in my photos. Does it include washing and the agreed finish? Please identify length-related charges and exclusions. Quote any optional package separately. My topper is a reference unless work on it is separately confirmed.'
Send natural-hair service enquiries for Vit So to +852 5305 7561; its location is 252 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan. OWNSTRAND's separate location is in Kwun Tong, with WhatsApp +852 5933 4697 for wig and topper enquiries. Shared ownership does not make these locations interchangeable or combine their service quotations. Confirm the intended appointment location before travelling.
| Item to match | Quote A: standalone cut | Quote B: package enquiry | Clarification needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Natural-hair cut | Current perimeter retained; ends tidied | Cut boundary not stated | Request the same retained length and affected sections |
| Fringe and layers | No redesign included | Not confirmed | Ask separately if redesign is needed |
| Washing and finish | Wash and agreed blow-dry confirmed | Finish not specified | Confirm washing and the exact finishing request |
| Length assumptions | Current length recorded; applicability confirmed | Applicable length charge unresolved | Confirm which services and measuring point apply |
| Topper work | Excluded | Not addressed | Keep product, fitting and alteration separate |
| Optional services | None requested | Written package contents pending | Obtain contents; do not invent or subtract them |
| Comparable total | Use confirmed scope total | Not ready to compare | Request a matched standalone quote or assess the package separately |
Ask OWNSTRAND about selection and fitting
Tell us the style you have in mind. We can discuss the options, quotation and arrangements before you decide.
Ask OWNSTRAND about selection and fittingBefore you choose
Should I choose the cheaper quote if both replies just say 'cut'?
Not yet. Ask both salons to confirm retained length, affected sections, washing, finishing and applicable additions. A shorter label does not prove the work is equivalent. If the same scope is confirmed, compare the totals alongside how well each proposed plan meets your priorities.
Does a package include trimming or fitting my topper?
Do not assume so. A natural-hair package and work on a supplied hairpiece are different scopes. Ask whether the requested topper work is available and obtain separate written confirmation of its arrangement and charge. OWNSTRAND product and fitting charges are not included in the comparison by default.
What if a quote changes after an in-person assessment?
Ask what changed: the cut design, current-length assessment, finishing or additional work. Request the updated scope and total before approving it. A revised proposal may be reasonable, but you can retain the original priority, decline optional additions or pause the decision if the new quotation is unclear.
