How to Put On a Wig Video: Prepare, Position and Adjust
This video shows how to prepare short and long hair before putting on a wig: lay long hair flat in crossed sections and smooth short hair back. If using a wig cap, check that it suits the wig and avoid stretching it tightly. The presenter then places the front edge first, moves the wig gently from front to back, aligns it above the ears and checks comfort. Any nape strap is adjusted only as the style's instructions allow.

Keep these checks in mind
- For long hair, part it in the middle, divide it into two sections at the nape, cross and lay them flat along the scalp, then secure with clips; smooth short hair back with its natural direction.
- If using a wig cap, first check that it suits the wig; put it on from front to back without stretching it tightly.
- Identify the wig's front and back and gently arrange the hair; return built-in straps to their factory-set positions before putting it on.
- Tilt your head slightly forward, place the front edge at the forehead, then ease the wig from front to back without pulling the hair or base.
- Feel for the side positions and align them above the ears; bring the front edge close to your own hairline without forcing it.
- Check the nape and sides; adjust a nape strap only according to that style's instructions. If it feels tight, painful or slippery, remove and readjust rather than forcing it.

Putting on a wig with short or long hair,
takes slightly different preparation;
first smooth your own hair flat,
so it is easier to check the position once the wig is on.
For long hair, start by parting it down the middle,
then divide it into two sections at the nape,
cross them and lay each flat upwards along the scalp,
securing them with hair clips,
so the hair does not bunch into one thick lump.
For short hair, smooth it back with your hand, following its natural direction;
if you are going to use a wig cap,
first check that the cap style suits this wig,
then put it on from front to back,
Before putting on the wig, identify its front and back,
if the style has built-in adjustment straps,
first return both sides to their factory-set positions.
Tilt your head slightly forward,
and place the front edge at your forehead first,
then gently ease the wig over your head from front to back,
without pulling on the hair or the base.
Feel for the positioning on both sides with your hands,
aligning them above your ears;
bring the front edge close to your own hairline, but do not force it,
and gently shift it into place if the sides are uneven.
If this style has a nape adjustment strap,
adjust each side slightly according to that style's instructions,
then check the nape and both sides again;
if it feels tight, painful or slippery,
Finally, gently separate the hair sections with your fingers,
and check the front and back positions in a mirror.
